Sales Associate and Key Holder

Timber & Tides Mercantile is an exciting, new retail space opening in May 2023 at 8584 Main Street in Alma, New Brunswick. We are seeking a Sales Associate and Key Holder to join our team.

What will you do?

  • Welcome and greet customers as they enter the store
  • Offer help and provide an amazing shopping experience that will encourage customers to return
  • Attend to unique and individual shopping needs of each customer and answer customer questions/concerns
  • Cross-sell and encourage beneficial product add-ons
  • Process purchases, returns, and exchanges and issuing the correct change due to the client
  • Bag, box, or wrap merchandise for clients
  • Report anything unusual or any major incidents to the manager and remain attentive to ensure there’s no misuse of company property or theft
  • Process newly received shipments and perform inventory counts when required
  • Help organize back stock, organize and replenish front stock and help merchandise store
  • Maintain a clean and tidy work and retail space
  • Take direction from and report to the manager
  • Demonstrate a commitment to our Health & Safety policies and guidelines
  • Work as a team to achieve sales goals

Key Holder Responsibilities Provide leadership support and help run the store when owner is away

  • Assist in the opening/closing of the store and store administration
  • Close out the register and communicate any shortages or overages to the manager
  • Train and coach new sales associates as needed to help them quickly get acclimated to the team
  • Assist with loss prevention
  • Ensure store signage standards are maintained
  • Follow Point of Sales (POS) procedures

  • Conducting yourself in a positive, mature, professional, and cheerful manner at all times
  • Being enthusiastic and informative about all products
  • Emphasizing open, honest, and positive communication
  • Planning, organizing and multi-tasking at a quick pace while ensuring accuracy
  • Protecting company assets, monies, and confidential documentation
  • Familiarizing yourself with community events
  • Demonstrating a commitment to our Health & Safety guidelines

Work Hours & Benefits

  • Seasonal store operating from May – October
  • Monday to Friday, 35 hours with paid breaks (if applicable)
  • $16 – $19 per hour, commiserate with experience
  • Time and a half for holiday work (if applicable)
  • Flexibility for reasonable time off (unpaid) if asked in advance
  • 25% employee discount on most products

You’d be great for the role if:

  • You love interacting with people! You should be upbeat, optimistic, passionate, and friendly!
  • You’re full of energy, self-motivated, can work with minimal supervision and can handle multiple tasks.
  • You’re a self-starter and use good judgment in all situations.
  • You’re highly organized, including the ability to re-prioritize workload and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • You’ve worked in retail before – this is a major plus but not a deal breaker.  As a minimum, you need an understanding of retail operation concepts such as maintaining store standards, cash handling, and merchandise presentation.
  • You are computer literate; familiar using POS systems.
  • You can continually update our social networks to promote the store and products.
  • You’re comfortable standing for long periods of time and can lift up to 20 pounds.
